Joline Alexander
was the Choreographer to the Society for many years. Her great
skills lay in teaching both children and adults how to dance and in
training the chorus in simple stage technique. She was gracious,
diplomatic and strict - qualities which endeared her to many people
over the years.
Wilf Fredricks, a
well known actor and member of a famous Weston family who performed
Pierot shows at the Tivoli Theatre and on the Grand Pier, was the
much loved and admired Producer and Director for the Society and for
many years it flourished under his direction. Since his retirement.
a number of other Directors using their special talents have guided
the society into the 21st Century. Our shows now receive many
nominations for direction, music, singing and acting for
individuals and ensemble work from NODA, The Rose Bowl and Somerset
Fellowship of Drama.
Tom Shearman,
recently retired, was our talented Musical Director for 40 years and
his partnership with Wilf Fredricks was legendary with the first
performances in Weston of all the great post-war American musicals. Under his baton,
the society together with more recent Directors has achieved great
vocal qualities. Now under the musical direction of Matthew Tilke
and John Johnson,
the society will continue to maintain the reputation it has built
over the years.
It must be
mentioned here that over the years the Society has been fortunate to
have a number of musical accompanists including, Jessica Hillman,
Doris Osmond, Anne Wiltshire, Nesta Shearman, Matthew Tilke and more
recently, John
Johnson. The finished productions would not have met with the
success that they have enjoyed without the patience and dedication
of these people during rehearsals. We are indebted to them all.
